Can't get enough of Spineless, But Brave? Be sure to check out all of our behind the scenes content! To the right of this text box, check out the complete interview with Dr. McClintock. Dr. McClintock is a polar and marine biologist, professor, and author at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, and offers valuable insight into why the study of invertebrates is important to mankind. Linked below, check out the behind the scenes vlog, showing some of the work it took to film on location at Blue Water Park for the production.

Spineless, But Brave

Invertebrates are animals lacking a vertebral column, or spine. While we generally associate being "spineless" with being fearful or meek, many of these little critters are far from timid. Join us as we explore the worlds of some of these spineless creatures living here in the great state of Alabama. We're excited to premiere the pilot episode of "Spineless, But Brave," focusing on Craspedacusta sowerbii, the freshwater jellyfish.

Science education in Alabama high schools depends on resources that face major funding threats from the state at a time when nationally science itself has become a source of controversy. This documentary focuses on examining the work and impact of the Alabama Science In Motion (ASIM) program and the Alabama Math, Science, and Technology Initiative (AMSTI). These programs face substantial, if not complete, funding cuts in the coming years, which would be crippling to STEM education in the Alabama school system.

Viva Science!

Embracing the Oddities

Birmingham Oddities is a small shop in downtown Birmingham that serves as a market for a wide variety of oddities. The shop also serves as a market and safe haven of sorts for a variety of Birmingham artists. This documentary-style video focuses on the shop, the proprietor, and some of the artists that sell their work there to showcase the special purpose this shop fills in the greater Birmingham community. So jump in, experience the shop, and embrace the oddities!
