UAB IT Department's National Cyber Security Awareness Month Video Contest Winner 2015

In the Spring of 2015, I was awarded first place in the UAB Information Technology Department's National Cyber Security Awareness Month Video Contest. Utilizing restaurants and food as an analogy for cyber security options, my submission presented key information in the form of a whiteboard-stye time-lapse video. Check out the video below or linked on the official UAB article page.

UABSTHonors

On the UABSTHonors YouTube channel, you will find plenty of exciting media coming straight out of the Science and Technology Honors Program! UAB's Science and Technology Honors Program revolutionizes the undergraduate experience. Acceptance into the program puts students in the company of fellow scholars and world-renowned researchers. Together, they take part in unique academic and research experiences specifically designed to give a head start on a scientific or technical career.

The Science and Technology Honors Program is the only one of its kind in Alabama. It is designed for the best and brightest students whose academic and extracurricular achievements demonstrate intellectual curiosity, energy, creativity, community commitment, and leadership abilities. As a graduate of this program, students will be well prepared for graduate and doctoral study.

I've been producing content for the UABSTHonors YouTube channel since the Spring of 2015. I started my work on the channel partnering with Nicholas Bolin in the STH 151/250 classes to produce This Month In Science, the Austin Lenox Research Spotlight, and A Day In the Life of a SciTech Student. Following the STH 151/250 curriculum, I worked with Charlie Keith to produce several other pieces for the channel, including The Bridge to Success in SciTech Honors, video content for patrons supporting the SciTech Summer Scholarship, and content to aid in passing the torch for SciTech video production, including the How-To Video Series.

This Month In Science

How-To Video Series

This Month In Science is a monthly newscast produced by Honors College students at UAB. The mission of the newscast is to publicize important scientific discoveries and innovations happening worldwide to students and faculty in the UAB community. To view more episodes produced by Nicholas Bolin, Ryan Murphy, and Kristin Deneen, click the button below to go to the page.

The How-To Video Series, produced by Charlie Keith and Ryan Murphy, was created to help pass rudimentary video production skills on to the next generation of SciTech Video Production. The series focuses on utilizing easily accessible video resources to produce quality content for the UABSTHonors YouTube channel. These skills are applicable to any aspiring video producer.

A Day In the Life

of a SciTech Student

A Day In the Life of a SciTech Student was my first "documentary-style" project Nicholas and I had ever tackled. Unlike a documentary, all interviews were conducted prior to filming in order to script all content for both Ethan and Mugdha. This video highlights what it means to be a student in the SciTech Honors Program.

Viva Choice - UAB's New Consumer-Driven Health Plan

Viva Choice, UAB's new consumer-driven health plan (CDHP), was an option added for eligible UAB employees in the Fall of 2016. This option was added in addition to the traditional Viva and Blue Cross Health Care Plans. Under my job with the UAB Human Resources Department, I was contracted to produce a video highlighting the details of the new plan. Check out the video to the right of this text box, or click the button below to read more about the UAB Viva Choice consumer-driven health plan. All rights reserved to UAB HR.

Instructional Videos

InstructionalVideos123 is an old retired YouTube channel. The original purpose of this channel was for posting school projects and other independent videos that I felt didn't belong on my other channels. Other than these videos for general chemistry lab projects and a few other videos, this channel never had much content.

RNN

I started as a reporter for my high school's newspaper my sophomore year of high school. After working on my first video piece highlighting home football games, I gathered a group of students to start our first newscast, Raider Nation News, for which I served as lead editor and Executive Director. The production quality is pretty low, but this was my first real break into the world of visual media and video production.

Organic Chemistry Lab Video Series

Working to Save UAB Students Money

During the 2016-2017 school year, under my teaching assignment for the Chemistry Scholars Program in the UAB Chemistry Department, I worked with Dr. Jacqueline Nikles to produce a new organic chemistry laboratory video series for the department (not available for public viewing). Thanks to Dr. Nikles efforts and strategic planning with instating changes to the lab curriculum (including this video series), she was able to impact 334 students this past year, saving them a total of $15,480 in lab manual fees! I'm happy to have had the chance to work with Dr. Nikles on such an impactful project.
